Dell moves 40 000 Ubuntu desktops

It seems like a lot, doesn't it?
Abandoning the frightening monopoly of the Windows empire, Dell began selling desktops running Ubuntu this year. It was a bold move, highly applauded by the tech community.
With the scorn and disgust at Microsoft Vista, the white elephant of the operating system world, many users, including myself, have found peaceful tranquility with Linux.
I'm running Ubuntu at this very moment, writing this post. Ubuntu allows me to use the internet, write documents, watch videos, play games, edit photos - pretty much everything that I really want to do. Why should I pay for Windows when Ubuntu does the same thing for free?
And some things, Ubuntu does better. Recognizing printers and digital cameras, for one. Not loading a whole bunch of crap on your computer, slowing it down. Not treating you like a thief!
Well, Dell managed to sell 40 000 units of desktop PCs running Ubuntu.
It may seem like a lot, but considering that they move 10 million computers a year, it's hardly a drop in the bucket. Still, we can all hope that they'll continue down this path.
After all, Windows XP adds another $100 to the price of a computer. It just seems free because they don't explicitly charge you for it. Plus, you'll have to buy Microsoft Office to be able to do something with the computer. Sure, you might use a pirated version, but that'll make you feel guilty, won't it?
If you're going to the next level, that means Vista with Office 2007, which will really estrange you from the rest of society. It's like taking a vow of chastity. Vista adoption rates are pretty slim at the moment, and Office 2007 is irritating people all around the world.
Ah, sit back and use Ubuntu. It's not foolproof, but it's a good feeling working with an open-source, community supported platform.
