Instant Messaging and Hoaxes.
November 19th 2006 01:49
OK admit it..at least once we have fallen victims to the hoax messages we receive through the Instant Messenger client or even forwarded at least one of the messages we received to all our friends.
There is nothing more irritating than to see a million offline messages pop up and stare at your face claiming Yahoo is going to stop being free and stuffs like that. I mean when I see those messages I always have this image of a guy who is sitting there at some part of the globe and laughing vehemently at all the users who have fallen victim to his (well it could be a she too..no?) prank.
Well ok from here on let us promise ourselves that before we fall for this kind of stuff we will make sure that we do our duty to verify whether it is genuine or not. I am gonna give you guys some links which you can always use to do that. So next time you are in doubt hop across to one of these sites and verify it. Without further adieu here are the links.
1.A good site related toYahoo messenger hoaxes. As a side dish (or may be you consider it as your main dish) you can also see many other Yahoo Messenger related stuffs there on the left menu.
2.A collection of all the Internet related scams and hoaxes , from the Antivirus maker Trend Micro. It includes the most popular scams like the Nigerian scam, the Microsoft scam and the Tsunami scam. If you just want to narrow down on Instant messenger hoaxes type "messenger hoax" on the search box there and on the resulting page you get click on " Search for messenger hoax in all Trend Micro pages ".
3.A related article from About.com
4.A collection of all Instant Messenger hoaxes whether it is Yahoo, MSN or AOL.
Ok now I have done my part. So next time if you get a message from one of those supposed (or rather wannabe) Top yahoo executives saying they are gonna shut down the free service of Yahoo messenger stop heading to the store to buy a dozen boxes of Kleenex to cry a river.
Side note:-
Talking about hoaxes not many hoaxes can beat the Paul Mcartney is dead hoax. If any of you haven't read it yet, read it here.
