Solar Powered Televisions!
July 7th 2008 07:45
I'm not much of a television fan... I haven't owned one, well, ever, and I'm not keen to start. Partly it's because I rarely find anything interesting to watch on TV, as I'm irritated by commercials and shrill prime time shows.
Grudgingly, I can see the benefits of television, though... it's like a modern-age radio, keeping people in touch, disseminating information. Without a TV, you'd be hard pressed for information in a zombie epidemic or alien invasion.
Luckily, though, Sharp has designed a television system that runs on solar power, making it perfect for locations with no constant electricity. As far as we know, the sun keeps on shining.
The problem with all this solar-powered technology is that it leaves some places in the dark... what about in Scandinavia, when they have 30 days of night? No TV? That's not really fair.
On the other hand, it seems ridiculous to not solar-power everything in Australia. After all, as Chopper says, it's sunny in Alice Springs for the next 10 000 years.
