Waterproof sand
February 1st 2008 01:34
This material is amazing... it's a sand-like substance that's complete hydrophobic, meaning it won't mix with water.
That means it's always dry. ALWAYS.
This could be huge on beaches... imagine going to the beach, it rains, but where you're sitting, it stays dry.
Actually, that's pretty much the only use I can think for it. But it sure looks fun to play with!
You could spend entire rainy days, trapped inside, tossing this stuff around in a tank of water. I'd be tempted to taste it, but that's because I'm always using my mouth to 'feel' around, like a shark.
Of course, you'd expect to have to buy this stuff from a disgruntled NASA employee, selling stuff out of suitcases in backalleys. In fact, I wouldn't trust any waterproof sand unless it came straight from a backalley.
You'd be surprised, though... you can make the stuff yourself, if you watch this video.
